North Haven, CT (January 7th, 2021) – Precision Combustion, Inc. (PCI) announced it will participate in Department of Navy’s Forum for SBIR/STTR Transition (Navy FST) Events including NAVSEA Days, NAVAIR FST Days, and SEA-AIR-SPACE Symposium to showcase innovations in the removal of copper contamination from jet fuels, fuel cell system design, and air filtration.  The company will present on its developing technologies and commercialization efforts and host booths to facilitate customer interactions.

NAVY FST2
At NAVSEA FST Days to be held January 27-28 of 2021, PCI will showcase a high-efficiency filter system capable of removing copper contamination from jet fuels. The copper filter module integrates two technologies: a modified sorbent chemically tuned to selectively attract and strongly retain dissolved copper ions without affecting fuel additives or the fuel itself and a short contact time, low pressure drop and high mass transfer rate “Microlith®” substrate that will enable high throughput while achieving high rates of removal.. The project will scale-up and demonstrate the replaceable filter module by increasing sorbent utilization and diffusion rate of contamination into the sorbent.  Implementation of the technology is targeted to improve engine performance while decreasing engine maintenance and increasing life.

PCI’s breakthrough fuel cell system technology will be presented at the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Days virtual event to be held March 16-17 2021. The development of a logistics fueled, high efficiency all-electric power and propulsion (PnP) system will have the potential to improve mission range, capability and logistics for Navy’s Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) platforms. In the next phase of its project, PCI will fabricate a lightweight prototype to test functionality in Phase II. Implementation on Group 1-3 UAS will increase range and mission duration and support One Fuel Forward policy. The technology is targeted to double mission length as compared to the baseline system.

At the SEA-AIR-SPACE Conference and Exposition, to be held at National Harbor, MD, August 1-4, 2021, PCI will present its development of an improved breathing air filtration system for Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and a catalytic scrubber in the hot zone of the engine bleed air prior to the heat exchanger to destroy and filtrate contaminates, resulting in clean air to Onboard Oxygen Generation System (OBOGS). In Phase I, PCI successfully demonstrated a simple and lightweight catalytic scrubber and sensor for adsorptive destruction and monitoring of contaminants in pilot breathing air which will now be extended into PPE and as an air filtration platform technology. Successful transition of the technology will increase the performance capabilities of naval personnel.

The Navy Forum for SBIR/STTR Transition (FST) events seek to promote small companies, such as PCI, by creating opportunities for participation and connection among different stakeholders and experts in the Virtual Transition Marketplace (VTM). PCI is excited to present on its technological innovations and connect with interested Navy primes and commercial companies. PCI maintains a strong relationship with the Navy and appreciates their continued investment in emerging technologies and small business development.
