At Precision Combustion, Inc., we have been developing advanced filtration systems to address evolving challenges in air quality. Initially focused on removing phosphates from the oxygen loop of aircraft, the project was adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic to target airborne bacteria and viruses. The project began with the goal of preventing phosphate buildup from tricresyl phosphate (TCP) in onboard oxygen generator systems (OBOGS). As the pandemic highlighted the urgency of protecting against bioaerosols, PCI transitioned its expertise to develop filters capable of capturing and neutralizing pathogens. Using in-house testing with E. coli as a representative bacterium, our filters demonstrated over 95% filtration and neutralization efficiency. Subsequent external testing expanded the scope to viruses, validating the system’s adaptability and effectiveness.
